FAQ
What is a Doula?
A doula is a professional who supports birthing people through the trails of pregnancy, labor, and whatever comes after. There can be a disconnect between the medical establishment and families, and a doula is there to fill in the gaps of the process. The doula’s job is to be both a walking birth encyclopedia and an emotional support for the parent. This support can have extremely positive effects for those experiencing childbirth. If having a childbirth free of pain medication is important to the birthing person, there has has been a noted decrease in need for pain medication by using a doula, and a doula's presence can even shorten a person’s labor.
Are your services covered by insurance?
At present, insurance coverage of doula services is inconsistent. However, more than 20 insurance companies have started covering doula services for their patients. I will provide all necessary documentation for filing, but you will need to contact your insurance company and ask if they will reimburse you for the cost. I can provide you with resources for requesting reimbursement, but cannot guarantee that my services will be covered.
Where are you located, and will you come to me?
I am located in Decatur, GA, and will travel anywhere within the Metro Atlanta area at no extra cost. If you are located outside this region, we can discuss virtual meetings over zoom or travel costs added to your birth package.
